Has anyone talked with any oncologists about the GP2 vaccine discussed in this article?

I was a participant in phase II of this trial after completing chemo and Herceptin, but found it and enrolled in it on my own, with the support and cooperation of my oncologist.

One thing to note is that GP2 enrollment was dependent on histological tissue type, like for organ transplants. Approximately 50% of Her2+ patients could potentially be ineligible for enrollment in subsequent trials if they are not the appropriate tissue type - if tissue type is still being used as a sorting tool, or for the vaccine itself if it is brought to the market. GP2 was trialed with AE37, which was used for those who represent the other 50% of tissue type, but the results from the AE37 vaccine were not as promising.

countrygirl - here is the link to the trial. It is no longer recruiting and plans for a phase III have not been announced to my knowledge. There are potentially some issues going forward with phase III since the announcement that the AE37 arm had not performed as desired. This may mean that the phase III will need a redesign since the two vaccines were linked, with half going to GP2 based on tissue type, and the other half going to AE37. Also, there were some legal issues with the pharma sponsor of GP2 and the vaccine originator, which I believe have been resolved but may have caused delay. I do not believe there is currently a way to enroll in this trial or get the GP2 vaccine, and for phase II there was timing criteria - all treatment (surgery, chemo and Herceptin) had to be completed and trial enrollment had to be within 6 months from last Herceptin.

Thanks for all the info. I actually just spoke with my oncologist. She confirmed that there are no clinical trials open that I qualify for right now. But, she has a big meeting in December and will report back anything that she learns about that could benefit me
