Positive margins

I was wondering if anyone out there had positive margins and the surgeon was not able to get them due to the margins were positive all the way to the chest wall. I started radiation last week and was just curious if that is common or uncommon. I have ILC and had a 6 cm tumor, double mastectomy and did not do immediate reconstruction. I have to do 37 sessions of rads.

Hi, I had surgery July 13 and had positive margins to the chest wall as well. I haven't met with the radiology oncologist yet but do next week. The MO and my surgeon said its fine. They will deal with it during radiation. He mentioned extra boosts. I initially wasn't comfortable having positive margins but the medical team seems fine with it.

Thanks for responding. I don't believe it's that common. I finished 10 of 37 radiation session this morning. They put what is called a bolace on top of you every other day for an extra boost. They are doing the whole quadrant and up my throat a ways. It's not bad.
