Microinvasive Lobular Cancer within LCIS

Mamogram identified calcifications on LB

Biopsy revealed LCIS on LB

Lumpectomy revealed Microinvasive (0.5mm) Lobular Carcinoma.

ER- , PR- Negative Margins

MRI looked fine for both breasts

The choices given to me were: sentinel node removal and radiation for LBor double mastectomy and sentinel node L removal with no radiation.

Anyone opt for the lumpectomy and No radiation?

    Hi Druthg-

You might want to check out our Lumpectomy Lounge. Lots of great info there, and many members who've made the same decision you're faced with.

    And welcome to BCO!

Hi, Druthg! I also had LCIS on biopsy and only found a small amount of ILC on lumpectomy. Unfortunately for me, my MRI was very "busy" for both breasts, so just going with lumpectomy and rads is not an option for me. My BS said before I got the MRI that she would be concerned about radiating me because she thought it could cause changes in my breast tissue that would make it harder for them to monitor me. I am EXTREMELY dense. If I were you, I'd ask what they think you would get out of radiation and how does that differ from what you'd get out of not radiating. Ask if they have any concerns about doing radiation on you. My BS absolutely did not want me to do radiation, and even discussed it in tumor board and they agreed.
