Is it OK if you run with tissue expanders? RIght now I have no desire to have another surgery but would like to get back in shape with running. When I run sometimes my chest hurts. Was looking for advise on running with tissue expander.

I trained for a marathon and ran it with a tissue expander. Didn't have any side effects and I ran a lot!

I started running (slowly) on my treadmill two weeks after my UMX. I was cleared to walk but really run at a smoother gait so there was less bouncing etc. when I ran on the treadmill. I did purchase a few new running bras slightly larger than pre UMX and very soft. They were supportive and comfortable but not too constrictive. At 6 weeks post surgery I resumed regular running outside and have run several 5 and 10k's. I am able to run at normal 5k pace. For me the greatest issue with resuming normal running is the dealing with the Texas heat - I seem to fatigue much faster. My advice would be listen to your body and resume running gradually. I am fortunate that my medical team has been very supportive of my running throughout this entire process. My exchange surgery is set for end of September so I hope to only have a short break from running for recovery. Good luck!!!!

Like Lunderwood, I had no issues running with my tissue expander. Felt a little weird at first, but no medical reason I couldn't run aside from laziness. I too bought a couple of new sports bras which helped with the comfort. After my exchange I had to wait 2 weeks before I could walk fast - no boucning! So I walked slowly on an incline and used the stationary bikes. It was 6 weeks total before I was cleared to run and lift weights at the gym.
