DCIS Stage O - I have breast implants....

I have implants and was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with DCIS, Stage O, estrogen positive. Does anyone else diagnosed have implants? A plastic surgeon advised to me to do bilateral mastectomy with expanders and reconstruction because the lumpectomy with radiation will disturb the breast tissue and the implant. My main surgeon suggested one option is to remove the implants, do lumpectomy with radiation, put in expanders and then new implants.

Have any of you had this scenario? What did your doctors advise? What did you decide to do?

Some clarification and guidance would help clear my mind for the best choice.

I'm very curious about this too. I am 54 yr old. I was recently diagnosed with DCIS and have implants. My surgeon wouldn't even offer me reconstruction after he recommended partial mastectomy after I asked him about it! I'm getting another surgeon. I didn't like him. He also refused to remove a sentinel node despite my oncologist's recommendation! I have silicone implants and wish to have full bilateral mastectomy as a prophylactic measure in addition to removing the DCIS. How can I get the surgeon to do it and insist the insurance company cover the BX procedure now that I need to have a partial mastectomy? My mother died from breast cancer at 69. Insurance company will not authorize gene testing. Thank you ladies

Hi scottchickee50 - I'm so sorry you find yourself here but you will find alot of helpful information as well as wonderfully helpful ladies. I noticed this is an older thread but there is a section - "Reconstruction" that you may want to post your question in as that is where most reconstruction information is. I really can't answer you as I don't have implants and I'm trying to research information for a UMX myself. :) Hope this is helpful.
