Does family history/ known mutations increase recurrence risk?

Hi friends - I know I've asked about this before, but just hoping to get some input. My onc really feels that my family history not only of breast cancers but other cancers is a good reason for me to stay on hormonal therapy for ten years. Obviously I'm not keen on that idea. For those of you with known mutations, what are your oncs saying about this? I love my onc but that was not the news I expected with my low oncotype score. Thanks in advance. Love you guys!

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at 42 and passed away from it at 56. I was 41 when diagnosed. Because of how young my mother was and how young I was at the time of diagnosis, my oncologist wants me on Tamoxifen for 10 years.
He didn't say that it raises my recurrence risk, but like your oncologist, he did say that it would be very beneficial for me to stay on Tamoxifen the full 10 years.

Thanks etnasgirl. Sucks. Oh well, at least she said ten years of tamoxifen would be ok. So far the AIs are not for me.

I was told that my PALB2 mutation probably raises the risk of recurrence and that I should plan to be on AIs for 10 years, Farnpmer Lucy. :(

ETA. - I believe (but could be wrong) that every mutation carries different risks, as well as degrees of said risks, so what is true for me might me the case for you. Additionally, some mutations are better understood than others.
