I've a painful lump post partial mastectomy/6.5 wks radiation.

I was diagnosed with DCIS and had a partial mastectomy. Then had 33 radiation treatments (including 8 boosts). During the boost portion of my treatment I developed a substantial lump in the treated breast. It's painful and it was suggested it was scaring. Is this common or should I seek further help with this situation?

Hi All.......I'm back only a few days later. Seems my surgeon is on vaca....so I have to wait to see whats up inside my effected breast. Pain is worse, as is swelling/or size of the lump. Not sure what to do as it's still a week to my appt. Not sure if the ER is in order or????? If anyone reads this or a professional has an opinion please respond. I'm a lil more than worried at this point.

Hi, I finished rads July 5th. A few weeks later I developed a hard lump that was painful and getting bigger. My RO said it was a Seroma. It's fluid that fills the area where they removed the breast tissue. It was under my lumpectomy scar. RO said my breast surgeon would aspirate it. I called and was asked if I could wait the body will eventually absorb the liquid. Ok. I went on vacation. During that week the lump spread and was closer to my lymph nod scar. I went to my breast surgeon.My Breast surgeon wasn't sure because usually seroma feels squishy not hard, so I was told to get a sonogram. I had the sono on August 17th. It was a seroma. They aspirated it but either it filled quickly or the doctor didn't get all of it. It's growing back. They said it may continue to happen for some time. The boosts caused a lot of damage to the tissue. It will take a while to heal.

I hope this helps you. I was concerned that the liquid would get into my arm and I would get lymphedema. If you feel it near your armpit, I would recommend getting it aspirated and not waiting for the body to absorb it.

Good luck and don't worry about the aspiration. It didn't hurt. I thought it would but nope

didn't hurt to stick a needle in you? I don think so. I should have had the cysts asirated in 1964.. the one that tuned into cancer was probably filled with blood, a conjecture. the other smaller one is still rolly polly but not very soft. not growning though, not risinf
