New diagnosis

two and a half years ago I was diagnosed with dcis. Had two lumpectomies and mastectomy and axillary dissection. No chemo or radiation at that time was not deemed necessary. 2 weeks ago I found a lump on the same side that my mastectamy was on. Newly diagnosed with invasive dcis this time. Just had MRI and waiting for the her 2 test to come back. Hormone was estrogen negative. Getting ready to schedule surgery and meeting with my team of doctors to see where we go from there. Considering I should ask them to do a mastectomy on the other side for preventative. They talked me out of it last time because they said there was no problem in there, but now that it has come back again I think it would be good. Any suggestions from anyone that might be in the same type of thing? I had great care the first time around. We are all in shock it came back on the mastectomy side. Thanks

I am no expert but surely its either DCIS OR Invasive cáncer....? Do you have any staging or grading?  Seems like your hormone status has changed which may make you triple negative and affect your decisión making, especially if HER pos.

However I think this is classified as a local recurrence and thus has a different treatment protocol but without more info on staging and grading etc its hard to advise. Why are you thinking of a mastectomy on the healthy side when it seems the problem is on the original side?  I think the MRI will give you a lot of the info you are seeking, sorry I cannot help more but hope this helps.

    Good luck
