Exchange Surgery = Epic Failure: Capsular Contracture of TEs

I posted another thread but have removed that post now that I have more information. I'm looking for anyone who has heard of this happening or has experienced it. I went in last Wednesday for my exchange from TEs to implants. I woke up with larger TEs instead and now I'm starting the whole expansion process over again. My PS explained that I had a lot of scar tissue and capsular contracture of my TEs and that even though my skin stretched nicely, no pocket was formed to accept an implant. He said he basically had to start all over again, clear out the scar tissue, cut and separate muscle (worked me over) and then inserted larger TEs. I asked if there was concern about this happening again and his response was "well, yeah" From my perspective there was never any signs of concern that anything was questionable about my expansion in fact, the PS before surgery said my skin looked great, I had a lot of extra skin and that he'd be able to put some nice implants in. I'm having a hard time finding anyone or any information on this happening and now I'm starting to be concerned that something wonky has happened.

So sorry you are going through this. IMO you should get a second opinion, preferably at a university based teaching hospital. I'm not a doctor bit I am a RN and it seems to me that there should have been some indication of a problem before the exchange. Good luck and keep us posted...

I don't know about your exact situation, but capsular contracture is quite common. Perhaps your PSsaw it was happening (i.e. Excessive scar tissue forming and no pocket) before you saw or felt the effects of it. I've had multiple surgeries and every time I end up with a contracture..every frickin time. If it plays out, over time your breast gets hard and deformed looking. If your ps saw the beginnings of this, I understand what he did. I'm currently waiting to have my current TE removed permanently. I'm done with that shit!
