Is Postponing Surgery Until After Vacation A Good Idea?

Recently diagnosed about a month ago with grade 2, .9mm X .7mm tumour in L Breast, and a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy is planned. My surgery was just booked August 30th because we are planning on going away for 2 weeks Aug. 13th. Now, I am wondering if I made a mistake and should try to have this done before we go, and have more peace of mind while on vacation? Also, worried it could grow or spread. The surgeon and Dr. tell me it will be fine and go and enjoy vacation, but how do you really know that for sure?? Any thoughts?

Daisy, I am sorry you have to join this club. I think you should trust your doctors and go on vacation before your planned surgery. Two weeks are not going to change anything for you, the tumor most likely has been there for years.

Daisy777 - I was dx'd on September 15th, and scheduled for BMX on October 31st. REALLY didn't want it done on Halloween, so was relieved when the hospital called and rescheduled to November 8th.

Then I caught a stupid cold, and had to reschedule AGAIN for December 5th. I was certain that the cancer would grow completely out of control by that time - almost three months after initial dx.

The Nurse Navigator reassured me that it doesn't happen like that. In fact, in Dr Susan Love's Breast Book, she states that by the time they are detected, most breast cancers have been developing for 8-10 years. (This does not include highly aggressive cancers.)

So trust your docs, have a wonderful time on vacation, and come back for your surgery rested and relaxed.
