MRI Results

Hi,

I received my MRI results online yesterday, but won't meet with the surgeon until Thursday. I know I could wait and have her explain everything, but we know how "fun" waiting is. I was wondering if anybody could shed some light on my results.

I was diagnosed last May with cancer. This May I found a new lump so I've done the mammo, US, and biopsy. The biopsy showed atypical cells, so my surgeon wants to remove it. This is what the MRI states:

Small approximately 1 to 2 cm region of subtle nonmass-like stippled enhancement identified surrounding the biopsy marker clip at approximately the 10:00 position of the right breast, of indeterminate etiology and clinical significance. It abuts the implant.

I've looked it up, and it's not malignant. My atypical cells are the possible pre-cursor for cancer, and pre disposes me to a higher rate to get cancer, but I already got it. Any other information as to what this means is helpful.

Thanks!

Enhancement means there is increased blood flow. In the tissue. MRI sometimes overestimates (and sometimes underestimates, too) areas of disease because it isn't specific for cancer, but only for structures and their blood flow patterns. Waiting is the worst, for sure! I hope you have an enlightening, helpfulvisit when you meet with your doctor!

My surgeon said that I need to have a wire guided excisional biopsy. I'll be having that in a few weeks. We'll be able to tell then whether or not they're just atypical cells, or if it's cancer. As much as I love my doctor, it does get tiring taking time off of work for all these appointments.
