Protein for healing?
hi all!
My doctors recommended increasing protein intake before and after surgery to promote healing. But I'm not in the mood for meat, chicken and fish these days. Does anyone have a good protein powder or drink they like that has no soy? Any other tips on how to increase protein without meat?
Thanks!

I used a protein drink that I bought at CostCo. No soy. Tastes okay. I drank it through a few weeks after radiation was over. Premier Protein.
I also used (and use) protein powders I get at a natural grocer:
- Nutribiotic Rice Protein (Plain)
- tera's whey (organic whey protein)
- Omega Nutrition Organic Pumpkin Seed Protein Powder

You should aim for 100g of protein to aid in healing. I like Plantfusion protein powder, it is soy/dairy/gluten free, and low sugar, 4g per scoop with 21 g of protein. I like the vanilla bean flavor and blend it with almond or coconut milk and frozen organic berries. Another good combo is the chocolate flavor blended with 1/2 a banana, a spoonful of almond (additional 6g of protein) or peanut butter, a bit of honey, and almond or coconut milk. I also like the Oikos Triple Zero yogurt. I don't usually eat dairy but make an exception after surgery and eat the yogurt. It has 15g of protein in a single serving, is sweetened with Stevia, has zero fat, no artificial sweetener. You can also eat fortified cereals like Cream of Wheat (4g of protein), egg salad or scrambled eggs with cheese, or hummus and veggies. Larabars do not contain soy, are vegan, gluten and dairy free, non-GMO and the peanut butter flavor has 7g of protein. Good luck!

I add protein powder to my smoothies--no particular favorite brand but I have been reading the ingredient lists more closely and wonder why so many of them have to have fake sugar.
I'd also say eggs. I was eating one a day and have recently increased that to two. Part of the radiation treatment where I go is meeting with a registered dietitian. Besides upping protein going forward she said to make sure to get some with every meal. She asked if I drink my milk after a bowl of cereal (I didn't know anybody didn't!), so she said good--there's your protein right there. So milk/yogurt/. . . too.
