Hello! I only have two weeks of radiation therapy left and I have two unopened, leftover tubes of calendula ointment. Let me know if you are in need of some ointment and I can send it to you.

    HI there,

I have only 8 session left and I swore by the calendula ointment.. I think that is what kept my skin is such good condition.. Did you not use it or is it just extra? My RO and all the nurses asked me what I used to keep it in such good shape and that is what I told them... I only used a certain brand that is all organic.. The staff passed on the info to all the patients. Too bad I couldn't get a commission..

Congrats on nearing the end of your treatment!

    Diane

Where do you get the calendula ointment? I have 13 sessions left and my skin is already pink and looking red. My RO swears by California Baby lotion which has calendula in it. Is what you have different? Thanks.

I have a barely-used jar of the California Baby calendula cream if anyone would like it. Just PM me!

This is the kind I use: I like it because it is all organic .. A lot of them have petrolulem in them.. This one has Vit E and Bees wax.

Veronica, just a note that you may want to continue using the ointment for a few weeks after you finish treatment. While my skin didn't burn and I had no breakdown, I definitely found that I needed to continue babying it after RT. In fact, I STILL do (11 months after completing RT. It's more prone to dryness and itchiness and gets tight if I don't apply lotion 2x a day. So you may still want those tubes!

I have found that both Boiron calendula lotion and pure coconut oil (one at a time - not mixed together!) have been great for my skin; I suspect I'll be using one or the other for a long time, now that I've gotten in the habit of doing so.

    Hello all,

I was dx in January stage 2 BC, had bilat mastectomy, 4 rounds of chemo and now started 5 weeks of radiation last week. My skin is fine and the RO that was covering for mine made a comment that skin burn is inevitable. I just ordered the calendulla salve to hopefully minimise that. The past week, ive been apply Cetaphil lotion twice a day. I'm hoping for a miracle.

Did anyone get super fatigue in the first week? Cause it left me on the couch all weekend

I am 10 days from my last boost. My skin did not break down until the end. I used calendula and aquaphor the entire time, but now have some pretty terrible burns. I was told it was inevitable to get them, with 30 plus treatments. And creams won't prevent it, but will soothe and they do.

The side effects of of RT are so variable - one woman burns, another doesn't, some get fatigued early, some late. It makes it tough to know what to expect and that makes it emotionally grueling - at least, it was for me. I finished a year ago today - 35 treatments. I was told I wasn't likely to burn badly - and she was right, thank Heaven. I'm sorry you're dealing with such intense burns, Valstim, and hope things settle down and heal up quickly. Good luck with the remainder of your treatments. I found the boosts pretty easy compared to the wbr and it was nice to give the rest of the skin a break. I hope that's your experience, too.
