RARE CANCER anybody heard of.
So I had 2 tumours (one stage 1 and another stage 2 due to the size) - pathology results showed the following
- Lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma of the breast
- medually like carcinoma.
They say that they are very rare type cancers to be found in breast tissue. They tiptoed around any of my weak questioning around this. I havent seen my oncologist yet. I am 4/5weeks from a bilateral masectomy with Sling mesh implant. Can anyone shed light on this for me.. these cancer types/ Thanks

Here is a link to a Johns-Hopkins article on medullary and there is a small article on Wikipedia on lymphoepithelioma.

Hi rachelirwin:
Here is a link to a 2014 article, which also includes a table and list of references to other cases of lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma of the breast:
Suzuki (2014): http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4259938/pdf/WJCO-5-1107.pdf
While such articles are not a substitute for current, case-specific, expert professional medical advice, they can be helpful as you frame questions about treatment for your team.
There is a group here for those with medullary features:
https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/137/topics/801862?page=1#idx_24
You may wish to inquire with your oncologist about "medullary" versus "medullary-like".
With less common diagnoses (and depending on the expertise of your current team and facility), you may wish to consider seeking a second opinion review of the pathology slides from biopsy and surgery at an independent institution (slides are sent overnight), to confirm the initial assessment(s). Sometimes, your team can obtain an independent outside review on your behalf, although you may need to request it. Optionally, you may seek a second opinion yourself.
If of interest, there is more information about the second opinion process on the main site here. There are several sections (see menu at upper left). The second opinion institution can provide you with guidance about how to collect/send your materials (e.g., imaging, pathology slides, related reports, medical records). After obtaining a second opinion, you can still elect to seek treatment locally. Be sure to confirm insurance coverage and in-network status.
