Maybe new cancer on opposite breast

Hi - an MRI followup I had last month revealed something in my right breast. I went through diagnostic mammograms (OUCH!!!) which were so much more painful than regular mammograms, I stabbed my fingertip with my thumbnail to give me another pain to concentrate on. Then an MRI-guided biopsy.

Yesterday I had an excisional biopsy. I gather that most of the cells look okay, but some are atypical. And that in six months they might have blossomed into cancer. So it might be cancer, it might not. I feel really confused and can't wrap my head around the whole thing.

    Sorry to hear that, but best to catch and remove that area of atypia before it has the chance to turn malignant. If that’s all it turns out to be, then no need for rads.

    After my first round with cancer 10 years later I felt a lump in the left breast..I knew that it was. Hind sight I would have had both taken during the first one and had reconstruction surgery then. Would have saved me a second round round of chemo and radiation. Think I was stronger the second time cause I knew what was going on and what was going to happen.

    Sorry it's taken me a bit to respond. It's Lobular Carcinoma In Situ, which isn't cancer but puts me at high risk for breast cancer. My husband couldn't come with me today, so had to ask questions repeatedly and write it all down. I'm not sure what it does to my risk one way or another. I'll see my oncologist.

    I'm sorry you're going through this. Glad its not invasive that's good news. wishing you well .I know others will be by soon who have had lcis and offer some input

    hello, I've had LCIS and cancer on each breast. The LCIS is generally treated with hormonal therapy.

    Have they suggested that? I'll be starting my hormonal therapy. Sorry about the second diagnosis. But glad it's just LCIS. Having said that.. It's all pretty terrifying.. Hopefully your onc will give you some reassurance or seek a second opinion to clarify.

    LCIS is mysterious.. My surgeon says not to worry. Ok. :)
