DCIS Stage 0, Alternative treatment

Has anyone tried a holistic approach or alternatives to surgery and radiation? I was diagnosed recently and there seems to be a lot of new information that you may not need treatment. My doctors of course, suggest lumpectomy, radiation and tamoxifen because that is the standard of care. No one has said that is the best course for me personally, only that is the standard of care. They can give me tons of information about side effects but hardly any information as to if I really need any of this treatment.

Just curious if anyone else feels the same way or if you have tried other methods like nutrition, etc.

There just might be. It's called Chloroquine, which is on the WHO's list of essential and most widely used drugs in the world. It's cheap, straightforward, and only takes 4 weeks from start to finish. I'm going to try it in October for my LCIS.

For details, please see my post about it on the DCIS board: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/68/topics/845985?page=1

I have no idea why people are not doing this. Even if it doesn't work as well as expected (which will be known in September 2016, when the results of the clinical trial are in), the only loss is $50, plus some minor short-term side effects.

hi reidquinn96, I'm just seeing your message now. I have been on an alternative path since January. I recently had an MRI which revealed a small (8mm) tumor in addition to my DCIS, so I'm scheduled for surgery in a few weeks. But I'm still on an alternative path and hoping to avoid radiation and hormones as well as chemo if that's recommended, tho as of now chemo isn't deemed necessary.

What is the grade, size, receptor status of your DCIS? I've heard a lot about grades 1 and 2 being monitored, and also success with aromatase inhibitors depending on the hormone status

I'm sharing my journey and protocol on my blog (link is in my signature below) if you're interested.

    Kathy
