Hey, for the past two weeks I've noticed a small red spot (it's not raised and there's no lump behind it) just below my mastetomy scar. It reminds me of a scaly ringworm or something but its not. I'm a bit worried because it's near to the original tumour site. I've got an appointment with my BS on Tuesday, but could this be recurrence? I had radiation 2 months ago and hoping it just related to that. Has anyone else had anything like this?

Hi, yes I get them and like you worried they're some kind of recurrence, however they disappear almost as quickly as they appear. I usually get just one at a time, they are small like half the size of a grain of rice and show up along my mastectomy scar.

My onc looked at them and said she didn't know what they are, but isn't concerned. I hope this helps.

I have weird stuff on my skin in radiated area from time to time. It is likely ok, but you are wise in getting it checked.

Thanks ladies, I went to my GS and she said it didn't look suspicious..although she did say the area looked aggravated (red with broken blood vessels). She gave me some hydrocortisone cream, which I have used for two weeks now and the red spots have disappeared. She said if it hadn't gone then a biospy would have been in order but thankfully it's gone. She advised it's likely due to the radiation. Such a relief, now just got to get on with life and stop panicking about every small thing.

I just saw your post and decided to sign in to share my experience.

I finished the radiation in 2011 ! Soon after finishing it, I started to develop nasty red rashes near my mastectomy scar. Like you, I was very worried in the beginning. The cortisone cream helped, but they would come back with a nasty itch too. In time I stopped worrying, as they would completely disappear, then appear again.

Until now, I still have them now and then. So what I noticed is helpful? Turmeric capsules almost healed them to no sign of them. Recently I paused taking the supplement and they re appeared again !

Then recently, I bough a body lotion, not intending to cure the rash, just liked it. Guess what, a small amount on the area every night after the shower keeps the area nice and moist and the red rash has completely gone. The lotion is the Vaseline Intensive Care Coco Radiant, with pure coconut butter.

Other than the healing properties, it smells fantastic and makes you feel very pampered. So give it a try and don't worry about this rashes, they are from the radiation and can linger for years like mine. Hope yours won't though Take care x

Hi Lottemarine - I just saw your post, too. So glad it just looks irritated. My whole radiated area (had a UMX no reconstruction) developed red broken blood vessels (there is a name for it but I forget what it is called. My MO always tells me!) He said some women get this, some don't. He said it I wanted it removed I can have a laser done, but heck, after all I've been through, It continually got worse from just after rads til now, 4 years later!!

Thanks ladies, really appreciate your adviceand support. The red mark kept coming and going over the past few months, so my surgeon did a biospy last week and I received the results today- turns out I have dermatitis! So relieved! Never been so happy to have dermatitis 😀
