Breast Milk Sent to Pathology?

Hi everyone,

I also posted this in the "not diagnosed but worried" forum. So, I had my follow up with the breast surgeon to go over MRI results(BIRADS 2) and ultrasound (BIRADs 3 for tiny nodule). I mentioned I have been having continued discharge, sometimes clear, sometimes yellow and once a little rusty colored. He was concerned about the rust so he squeezed my nipples and said it is milk (I stopped breastfeeding about a year and a half ago) but he tested for blood (negative) and sent the milk to pathology. Has anyone had this done? I'm not too terribly worried because my MRI was clear. I'm just wondering what they can see in the breastmilk. He mentioned looking for abnormal cells but I didn't think that could be seen in milk?

He also sent me to have my prolactin levels tested to see if they are really high and causing the milky discharge though i think it is pretty normal to have milk production for a while after weaning--I was just surprised by the yellowish color and blood.

Just wondering if anyone has had milk tested. Thanks so much!
