Hi all. I had an ultrasound today after finding a lump a month ago. The technician took a few pictures and then left for like 15 min. When she returned the radiologist was with her. I was advised I have 1 mass. I am being sent for a biopsy tomorrow, and I couldn't be more scared. Will it hurt? Also my mind is racing, hoping I don't have cancer. I am 26 with a 6 and 4 year old. my paternal grandmother had breast cancer twice, first time in her 40s and my paternal aunt had breast cancer in her 40s. I'm embarrassed to admit I have smoked since I was 16 and do enjoy more than one glass of one often. My dad smoked my entire childhood in the house and cars. My lump is solid and confirmed not to be a cyst. It does not hurt, but I have discomfort in my should and upper back. Sometimes it radiates down my arm. I know the odds are in my favor, but can anyone tell me about discomfort on the side of a lump finding?

So sorry that you are going through this but remember that age is on your side. Most biopsies end up being benign and there is a good chance yours will, too. The soreness may be from muscle tension so just try to relax and do some things you enjoy to occupy your mind. The biopsy itself is not fun but usually not too bad. They will probably give you an ice pack to put on the site. Ice will be your friend. I had one biopsy that bruised badly and another one that didn't bruise at all. The waiting for the results is the worst. Hugs to you

hi chrissy. I had a lump but i had no pain in my shoulder. I also smoked but i don't think they have made a link between bc and smoking. I think at your age the odds are 80% your lump is benign. I found mine at 59-year-old and my odds were 80% it was cancer. I hope and pray you get a benign result

Krissy, I've been following your posts for a couple of weeks. I too found a lump, but am much older than you, and also have family history of bc. I've had two biopsies and several ultrasounds. The last biopsy did find invasive ductal carcinoma in my left breast. It was a shock even with my family history. Prior to the diagnosis, I had a mammogram in Feb that was just fine. I'd have pangs under my arm and once in a while in my back. Since I've now had a lumpectomy and 5 lymph nodes removed which were negative, I wonder if maybe I was just imagining or projecting the pain under arm etc. (I could easily see myself doing that:-) ) I also have a friend who was 32 when she was diagnosed and just celebrated her 5 year mark!

I"m firmly convinced that positive outlook is super important with any cancer diagnosis. They have made such incredible strides with research and treatments, even if you get the dreaded diagnosis and become a member of this group, it doesn't have to have devastating results. Take one day at a time and empower yourself with knowledge and a strong support group. These forums are so helpful! I mostly post on Lumpectomy but they are all great. Good luck and keep us posted. Dara
