Has anyone ever heard of this technique to treat lymphedema? I am considering it and wonder if anyone else has ever tried it?

It may also be called TheraCupping. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

    JoAnn,

Yes, I do this. I kind of stumbled across it (the person I went to for myofascial release for my frozen shoulder also happened to offer it) about 2 years ago, and have been going every 2-4 weeks ever since. We take a very cautious approach, and half-joke that the level of cupping that works best for me is the level that feels like it might not be doing anything :). We've found the machine at a really low setting works somewhat better for me than a cup connected to a hand pump, probably because you can get more consistentlevels of suction that way. I find that even the times she only works on my back and trunk but not my arm always make my arm feel softer for at least a few days. It's how I got definition back in my upper arm when my muscles had disappeared into a puffy column. It's been great for when I get hard or clogged-up feeling spots (like behind my armpit or just above my inner elbow) and I even have a small silicone cup intended for faces that I use on myself to get me through until my next visit if I run into trouble. I know it's not a generally approved method of controlling le, (I'm sure there are some that are cringing as they read this), and I'm not sure everyone would have similar results, but it works well for me.

Thanks so much for replying. I am happy for you that this gives you some relief. I think I will try it. It can't hurt.

I'm curious about this! I have cups and used them for plantar fasciitis. A friend who is an LMT taught me how to use them for that. It seems like it would work, but I guess it depends on controlling the suction. Hopefully someone has some experience with this one!
