Hypofractionated radiation should be the standard for early BC

Another study saying the shorter, more intense hypofractionated radiation course is just as effective as the 6 week course the majority of women in the U.S. get.

"Early-stage breast cancer patients receiving a shorter course of whole breast radiation with higher radiation doses per fraction reported equivalent cosmetic, functional and pain outcomes over time as those receiving a longer, lower-dose per fraction course of treatment, according to researchers from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center."

This follows several other studies done in Britain (where it is now the standard) showing that the shorter radiation course had equivalent outcomes compared to the longer course, except for a slightly lower risk of recurrence (after 10 years) in patients getting the shorter course.

Seems like this would be a win-win, easier for patients to complete the shorter treatment, and cheaper for the insurance companies.
