Strong pains in nipple with breast lymphedema

Subsequent to a lumpectomy followed by an axillary dissection, I had chemo and radiation resulting in breast and arm lymphedema. During radiation I started having really strong pains in my nipple which have not cleared up. Although my skin has pretty well cleared up since the radiation, the pain is still bad. My nipple is inverted most of the time but pops out fairly often and when it does it hurts to have anything touch it. Also, it is still bright red.

I would be so grateful for any feedback.

so sorry you are going through this. It took 6 months for nipple to heal for me- site of surgery and area hit hardest w radiation. while this took while to heal- it was more yellow in appearance not bright red. I have truncal edema and had couple bouts w mastitis vs radiation recall after radiation. If you haven't gone back for check might be something to consider -could even be yeast infection in skin fold
