Hyperthermia (together with radiation)

Hi, I've posted this at the rads section but no one is reacting. I'm going through BC for the third time now. I've finished chemo, BMX and now it's time for the rads. Since both breasts had rads the previous times, this time I need a special kind of radiation and that's hyperthermia. Has anyone experience with this treatment? Thank you.

I have not heard of it. Have you done a search of old posts? Perhaps you'd get more answers tehre. Sorry you have to go through this again.

I've been doing lots of reading about locoregional hyperthermia treatments. It sounds promising. They say it works best when combined with chemo or rads, but that it has some efficacy on its own. Oncotherm and Celcius42 seem to be the most popular devices for locoregional. I'd like for my wife to get treated, but there are no centers offering it close to where we live and they tell me that you want 2-3 treatments per week for 3 or 4 weeks. That isn't compatible with her need for her local doctors.

Thank you very much Timothy. I also got the feeling that it's an experimental thing. I also have to travel 2 hours to do the rads and hyperthermia. According to my local radiotherapist, this is not something new, but I can hardly find information about it. I was just wondering what the side effects would be.

What medical center is doing hyperthermia?

Here in Canada, it is offered through Naturopathic clinics. There are at least half a dozen in Canada with locoregional hyperthermia. There are not supposed to be substantial side effects. If you go to the website for oncothermia they have a lot of literature about treatments with their machines.

I live in the Netherlands. Only two hospitals are offering hyperthermia over here, in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The doctor I'm seeing is head of the trial. It's just that after having done all the standard things twice, I don't know how much I can trust the rads anymore. Thank you again Timothy, I'll check the site.

I have heard in Germany ( from family member) they use that and have had success. Good luck to you. Sorry that you're facing this again.

I just wanted to tell you that I started yesterday rads and had for the first time hyperhermia. It's awful. They bake you for an hour with temperatures up to 43C (109.4F). I really hope it helps.

They put a catheter inside and dozens of cables with thermometers outside for monitoring. In the beginning it's comfortably warm then I start feeling as if I have fever, it almost gets unbearable and then they start reducing the temperature. Afterwards I was dizzy and feeling nauseus. As soon as I put some water on my head I felt better. Four more times, together with the "normal" rads.
