Chest pain and sore throat

Options

Hey Ladies,

Within the last week I have noticed a slight breathlessness, sore throat and chest pain within my lungs (I have mild asthma) but it's usually not as persistent. I do suffer from acid influx but this feels different. I don't really have a cough as such, a sputter here and there. I've been back to work for nearly two weeks now and lots of people have coughs. Hoping it's nothing serious but my mind can't help but wonder. What are the symptoms for lung mets? I'm just 4 months out of chemo.

If you are 4 months out from chemo, your immune system is still likely compromised and you're likely to pick up infections easily. I would say call your PCP to get a throat swab and a chest x-ray to be sure you do not have pneumonia, bronchitis, etc. I think lung mets presents as a persistent cough and shortness of breath (though I am sure it varies individually), but it would likely not be accompanied by a sore throat. It is hard to not let our minds go to "there". Mine likes to take me "there" a lot. I consciously have to make myself say if these symptoms happened before cancer, what would I attribute it to? I try to come up with other logical explanations first. That works about 80% of the time. The 20% it doesn't work for....I call MO about those. Hoping you feel better soon.

I got bronchitis ALOT after chemo and rads which included breathlessness. One of my health care providers described how you have to cough harder because of the damage to your lungs. In the past 4 years, I've probably had bronchitis 6 times. Every time I am TERRIFIED of lung mets. But I always get better...eventually.

I was just telling my Oncology Physician's Assistant last week about my fears. She said, "You know, sometimes you are just sick."

    Amen.

thanks so much Kbeee and Denise-G, really appreciate your support. It turns out I had chronic acid influx, which caused me to be sick and aggravate my asthma. My doctor gave me a PPI, which I have been on for 2 weeks now as well as a really bland diet (no garlic, no onion etc), both of which has done the trick. I'm so relieved, but you're right, you've got to think logically first, thanks again
