Necrotizing Fasciitis and BC

Options

I just spent a fun filled few days in the ICU after surgery for necrotizing fasciitis in my throat and floor of my mouth. Lots of bad jokes about oral sex with my husband.

The only risk factor I have for this often fatal condition is my BC history. I am about as healthy as a 56 year old woman can be. I eat right, exercise daily, maintain my weight, get plenty of sleep and live in the mountains. The CDC should statistically never be interested in me, much less twice in five years.

I'm pretty freaked out by this. One thinks of dying of cancer or heart disease but fatal infectious diseases happen in third world countries.

Has anyone heard of a connection between cancer treatment, specifically chemo, and a long term compromised immune system?

There's just no reason I should have gotten this - the odds are better that I would get hit by lightening or win the lottery which just goes to show you my luck.

I'm also troubled by the fractured care we get here in the US. Do I make it a point to tell my oncologist about this? Should I seek an answer or write it off to fate? I have no idea what flavor of doctor might be appropriate to consult.

I know it's a long shot but figured if someone else had gone through this I wouldn't feel so .... weird....

I had triple neg bc stage 2 I positive node out of twelve 4 Weeks of a/c and another 12 weeks of dose dense taxanes followed by 38 rad treatments. I also had lumpectomy with left side axillary clean out. I began this journey July 10 2014. I was also dx with fibromyalgia years ago. I haven't felt great since treatments ended and as you know if your not actively receiving chemo or rads your kind of shoves out the door I have been dealing with a necrotic Seroma I hurt everyday and no one had any answers. I knew I wasn't losing it. So after much reasearch I can across a book by a ucla endocrineolisist R Paul St Amand. He also did a study in 2014 with City of Hope. He stresses the importance of staying away from all salicylates. And guess what is a potent salicylate Taxol which is made from the yew tree. His website is www. Fibromyalgiatreatment . Com. I don't know if it will help but defiantly check it out. I have been on his protocol for about a month and still having bad days but I can finally use my brain again. It's not perfect yet but I am a single mom to two teens. And they can make me crazy anyway. Good luck I know it's tough and this ,,"new normal" is hard to come to grips with. Feel free to email me at mlssthrn@ gmail .com. Hugs to you. Melissa

I would look into seeing an infectious disease doctor. My daughter, when she suffered from MRSA had a whole team of them and any of the antibiotic resistant diseases are their specialty. I wish you nothing but the best.
