Lump found, not showing on tests

Hey guys. I'm brand new. I'm kind of lost and stumbled across this site and found a few others with similar situations. I guess I just need to know that I'm doing the right thing with a second option.

So last Friday, May 27th, I did my monthly self exam and found a rather large lump in my right breast. It's really low so I may have not noticed it for a month or two but given its size I feel like I wouldn't go too many self exams without noticing it. For reference its on the underside of my breast. Midway between the thicker supportive tissue and the nipple. It's at least three inches long but only half an inch about tall.

I texted my OB and told her and she said to come see her Tuesday and she'd do an U/S and mammogram.

I did both tests and my OB called me with results today. She said both came back as that there was nothing there. But she personally felt the lump and knew it was here.

I had my yearly in December and she knew that it was not there then.

She referred me to Ohio State James Cancer Center and I have my second option appt there next month.

She said that while it did not show up she was mostly concerned with how quickly it had grown from not noticeable in December to this size in June. She said that she doesn't feel comfortable telling me to wait six months to recheck it be if it continued at this growth rate it would be my whole breast.

So now I'm here and I know I shouldn't Google but I do. Am I right to assume that it's pretty common for lumps to not show on an U/S and mammogram? I've read to request an MRI which she put in my notes to have done at Ohio State.

What else should I know? Anything else to say to the doc? If you've had this what was the outcome? (I ask this knowing it variously tremendously.)

We haven't told anyone be we don't really have much family and we've pretty private people but at the same time I need to talk to someone about it, and someone that actually knows what is going on is a bonus. So I'm hoping I've came to the right place.

And thank you ahead of time for any help.

Dear asned, Welcome to the community. We are sorry that these changes have brought you here but we are glad that you reached out to us. While you are waiting for some to check in take a look at some of our site's information on screening and testing. Perhaps this will stimulate some questions. Let us know via PM if we can be of help. I like that fact that your Dr has requested an MRI. Depending on the density of your breasts, mammo's are not as effective and not everything shows up on mammos and U/S sometimes.

When you go for your second opinion, tell them, too, that you would like an MRI. Depending on how anxious you are on this and if it fits your schedule, call them and tell them you would like to be put on a cancelation list so you can get in sooner if someone cancels.

STAY OFF DR GOOGLE in the meantime. You simply don't know what is what and Dr Google will not be of any help. At. All.

Haha! I definitely haven't googled much. But I did a search other lumps that don't show on mammogram and u/s and that led me to a couple of boards. I'm pretty good about googling responsibly.
