Icing hands/feet during infusion?

….to prevent nail problems & neuropathy….Has this worked for anyone? How did you do it?

just used ice mittens and they worked fo me.

I'm a firm believer in icing hands and feet during Taxol/Taxotere. My sister and I both did it and had good results. Neither one of us lost any fingernails or toenails. I have SLIGHT neuropathy in my right foot (which I pulled out of ice quite a bit) and my sister has slight but improving neuropathy also in one foot. Overall, we are big advocates for this!

We did it an easy and cheap way -- we wore lightweight socks and very lightweight cotton gloves to give our skin some protection. The hospital chemo nurses brought us those small bins hospitals have filled with ice - one for hands, one for feet. The MINUTE Taxol began (not the pre drugs), in went our hands and feet.

The great thing about icing - first they give you the benadryl and it makes you sleepy! You stick your hands and feet in that ice, and you suddenly are not tired and totally perked up! LOL!

I finished my last does dense taxol 4/18 I iced my hands and feet. I have mild problems with both feet, so I hate to think what it would have been like if I had not iced at all.

My MO made it clear to me that it's no gaurantee and she was correct. Several ladies with me in the infusion center developed problems with hands and feet though they iced faithfully so it's a chance you take.

My nurses supplied me with ice for hands and feet, they make sure you are icing during Taxotere. I also chewed on ice as well during it. Had my last tx 10 days ago. So far so good. I know nail issues can come later as well but I'm hoping everything will be okay

I did 4 DD A/C neoadjuvant and 12 weekly Taxol adjuvant and did not do have any issues with nails or neuropathy and did not do any 'icing'. It would not have been an option for me anyway as it was a 'fight' to keep my temperature above 94 f the entire time. Even this long after Chemo, I still am usually 96 f. so I'm always cold. At least, with warm seasons now, I do sometimes make it up to 97. I had to do my Taxol in a glass enclosed cubicle with it s own thermostat to run the temperature in it up and lots of warmed 'bankies' piled on me.

We are each so unique!
