Core biopsy done now to await results

I had my core biopsy done on architectural distortion Cat 4C this morning. It was confirmed that I have a 50 - 95% chance of malignancy, also told it could possibly be a radial scar. I am sure it is a malignancy given the % and just a feeling I have. I just want a diagnosis so I can get on with whatever needs to be done. Feeling very tearful, not for me but for my kids. The actual procedure was quick and painless.The staff were fantastic. Results in 7-10 working days.

Seven to ten working days! That's a wait, Olive. I had my results back in two days, and my radiologist called me on a Saturday. Hope you stay sane and that the results are that your area of concern is benign.

Ok, Olive, if they are telling you it could also be a radial scar, yes, there is a high probability that it could also be cancer, too. The waiting is going to be tough, but lets try to give you something productive AND proactive while you wait to keep you busy.

We know you do not have a Dx , one way or the other, but in this thread you will find a great deal of practical information of tips and suggestions that you start to implement in the eventual possibility that you get a positive diagnosis. It will help you get some ducks in a row.

2) Don't assume the worse, even with a diagnosis of breast cancer. There are over 20+ different kinds of cancerS that can effect the breast and even more subtypes. Depending on the kind that you may have will depend on what kind of treatment plan you will have.

3)There is a great deal of hope. A great deal. So try not to let your mind go down the dark path that it most likely is.

4) Here is another link to the main BCO page that will help you to understand some of the terminology that would come with a positive Dx for BC. In the main page area, you can get some good, basic, understandable information. Words like "stage" "grade" "type" etc.

5) Again, don't assume the worse, even with a diagnosis.

6)Don't be afraid to ask for a prescription for an anti-anxiety med if you need one. Many women, even those who usually don't go for pills, say that it was invaluable for them during the initial stages as so much information was coming their way and they needed to keep their heads as clear as was possible and the meds helped take the edge off.

Yes it is a long wait ElaineTherese! My family doctor gets given the results and then they call me. I am not sure how I will get through this waiting but I have to!! I was reading your diagnosis information, sounds as if you have had quite the journey! Hope you are doing well now.

Thanks Marie, I am up and down like a rollercoaster! I have times when I think it's OK if it is BC I'll get through it. I have a fantastic supportive family and it will be OK. Then the dark side kicks in and I imagine the worst! I just hope the days pass quick so I know my diagnosis.

I felt the same way. For some reason I really felt i would get bad news. I cried a lot and I was very scared. Having kids makes this sort of thing harder. From what you have posted i still think the odds are in your favor. They said moderate which is a 4b! Maybe the c was a typo. I had a typo on mine. Try to give yourself a break. Take off a day or two from work if you need. This is all very emotionally draining. ((Hugs)) I will be praying for you

Just some insight about radial scars. In imaging they mimic what some cancers look like. It's why when a radiologist see this kind of image on a mammo, they give the BIRAD4c, and even more commonly BIRAD5. So if the the radiologist said it could be also be a radial scar, the 4C is not a typo.

That makes sense Marie but after the 4C she stated moderate suspicion whereas 4C is highly suspicious so that left me a bit confused.

Was it the radiologist who told you it could be a radial scar? Do you know what your report states as opposed to what she said verbally? Sometimes its that kind of thing that causes confusion.

Either way, you have had your biopsy, and that in the end is the golden standard. You will have a definitive answer based on pathology on what it is. The rest is pretty moot now.

Keeping fingers crossed that the pathology gives you good news!!

It was the same radiologist who did my mammogram that also did my biopsy.

She told me prior to the biopsy that it could either be a malignancy or a radial scar.

On my report it said a small area of 23mm of architectural distortion was seen and that the breast was heterogeneously dense which could obscure small masses. There were also benign appearing calcifications in the breast too. Bi rad cat 4C - moderate suspicion

I guess I will know once the pathology has been done.

I just wondered why 4C but moderate suspicion. Every word on the report has me thinking! Thank goodness for Ativan at night!!!

And yes it is all irrelevant. The pathology has the answer. Praying for the radial scar option.

hoping you get answers soon. I just had my biopsy yesterday and I am already pacing the floor. They told me it could be a week. It's so hard to not know.

It's a long, hard wait for sure. Hoping that you get your results quickly and that your results are benign.

I still don't have my results. I spoke with my family doctor today and they still aren't there. It's a very anxious time. I just want the results so I know what is facing me so I have some idea of the journey that is ahead.
