Mets five year anniversary!
I just realized that this month is my five year anniversary since my mets diagnosis, where mets were discovered throughout my spine and ribs. I was in pretty bad shape five years ago- couldn't walk without help because my legs were numb, couldn't drive as I had to wear a back brace. A couple of months after radiation and Faslodex, I recovered all feeling in my limbs and I found my "new normal," but honestly, I really didn't expect to feel this well five years later. I am so grateful for my wise doctors and my treatments. And for all of the wonderful women on this site!
The cancer has found a new home in my liver, but right now it's small and under control. It does put things in a little bit different place in my mind, as mets just in the bones seemed like something I could handle forever. I still feel healthy, though, and every day is a blessing.
I'm going this morning to my weekly Mah Jongg group- five wonderful ladies, two of whom have had breast cancer, and one who lost her daughter to this beast. A group who gets it! Next week my husband of 45 years and my 31 year old daughter and I are going to Quebec City (on my bucket list) for a last little memory-making trip for the three of us before her wedding in September. I am definitely planning to be around for my 66th birthday in February, and hopefully, I'll have more good years ahead. Time really flies, though, doesn't it? I really can't believe it has already been five years!

sandilee, what a beautiful post and congratulations on the five year mark. Isn't science amazing that you could recover so well after having difficulty walking to where you're living a reasonably okay life? Enjoy that trip as well as the wedding. Here's to many many more wonderful milestones to experience.

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad my tale gives hope to those who find themselves newly dealing with mets. It's quite a shock to have a recurrence when you think you have beaten the disease the first time around. I know that I'm lucky, in spite of everything, and I do credit my good fortune and current well-being on the miracles of modern medicine.
Off to Quebec tomorrow. Hope we aren't rained in for the entire week (it's supposed to be pretty stormy). But I'm with the people I love the most, so it's all good.
