I will be ten years cancer free this August. I can't believe it's been ten years and I am so greatful to be doing as well as I am.

I have been on tamoxifen or an AI for almost ten years. I'm thinking at my next oncologist appointment I will be done with these but I remember her saying I could stay on them indefinitely. I'm just wondering if there is anyone who has been on them longer than ten years.

I still have many hot flashes a day and have a lot of hand issues but I can deal with these if I know the Ai's are continuing to work.

turtle, Congratulations on 10 years NED and limited SE! Like you I am willing to stay on AI's as long as needed to keep cancer away. The problem is there is no science yet about the risks/benefits to continuing AI's indefinitely. And the AIs are powerful medications that can cause problems. There is an ongoing trial to answer the question about extending AI therapy beyond 5 years. I am anxiously awaiting those results as I am nearing my 3rd year. Perhaps your oncologist could offer some detailed information on why they think indefinite therapy is right for your situation?
