Hi, I was diagnosed with Her-2/neu 3+, 5mm tumor and found in 1 lymph node Jan 2014, I did chemo, mastectomy & radiation. I never really looked into what stage and recurrance rate was until this morning due to trying to get life insurance and was told no one would insure me due to my diagnose. Can anyone explain to me, does this mean it was stage 3? Also I have been on Tomoxofin, caused horrible leg cramps to the point i couldn't walk, she then put me on Femera, gave me less cramps but hurt my bones and joints so bad I could cry, then she put me on exemestane in nov 15, it is just as bad, I hurt so bad at night I cant sleep, I walk like Im 90 shuffling my feet, I was so active before all of this and now feels like I can barely move. Has anyone stopped taking all this, does anyone know how it will effect my recurrance rate? Sorry to ramble, I feel like a hot mess :(

Geri

Unfortunately , insurance companies will often not insure any cancer survivors . Her2+ cancers are aggressive, they do have higher rates of recurrence.

I am currently not taking any tamoxifen or AI because of the side effects that were similar to your own. I know the recurrence rate is higher, but I need a higher quality of life while I am alive.

Hi Geri, her 2/neu 3+ doesn't mean you were stage 3. It means you were her 2 positive. They give you a score for her 2: 0 or 1 is considered negative, 2 is equivocal (they often do a second test then to get a positive or negative), and 3 is positive. The insurance is probably because you had cancer, period, not because of the stage.
