Cold Cap User Needing Detangling Tips

Options

I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to detangle hair without losing it. I just had my 2nd chemo with Taxol last Thursday - 4 days ago - and am using cold caps to try to keep my hair. I started losing more and more strands of it over the weekend and unfortunately it is also starting to knot up - almost as if it is heading toward dreadlocks. Would be so ironic to keep most of my hair with the caps but have to chop it off because of the dreds. I am regretting not cutting it shorter than I did before starting chemo. I was going to but was advised against doing anything too drastic before I had to. Should have listened to my gut. Anyway, I am not sure what to do now as far as these knots. And shampooing, etc. I would so like to keep my hair especially with two big family events coming up - one just after chemo ends and the other in Jan. Would be so nice to have my hair for those pictures which will be forever. I have 6 more rounds of chemo to go. Two more with taxol and then four with the dreaded A&C.

Thanks.

Several women have used corn starch to help with tangles. Try posting on the cold caps thread- search for "cold cap users past and present"

Have you tried the TangleTeezer brush? It's all I use now. It has replaced my brushes and combs, and I use it on my wigs, too. There are other versions but I bought one and it doesn't work as well. There is a new TangleTeezer for the shower but haven't bought that one yet. The brush has lots of very tiny, bendable teeth and it doesn't hurt my scalp when I brush. I also put conditioner on my hair before I shampoo it, to help with tangles.Good luck.

HI!!!! I just read your post and am also doing the same treatment as you except the opposite -4 AC and then 4 Taxol. I'm also doing cold capping- I've been using a baby detangler made by Hones (bought at Target in the baby section) . I had quite a bit of hair coming out over the weekend (day 20) and the capper person I hired said it was normal to lose some.. Still makes me nervous tho... I used a wide tooth comb along with detangler and held the hair while combing, as I got a huge knot too- I've also read not to run your fingers through your hair, but kind of difficult when you feel hairs falling out...

Let me know if you need the exact name of the detangler product or I can take a picture. :)

Spritz your hair with a product intended to make it shine (not a hair spray). It will take the tangles right out.
