Back pain while running. Waiting for MRI and bone scan result

Today is my 2 year cancerversary. I wish I could get the results of the scans today to stop me from constant worrying...

It has been over a week since I started experiencing back pain when I run, sometimes while walking, and can feel pain when swimming too. The pain is in the middle of my back, it's a piercing pain sometimes the pain would radiate to my chest and I would have hard time breathing. I have been running for a long time and never had back pain issue like this. I emailed my MO and he ordered the scans.

Has anyone else had pain like this? What were your bone mets symptoms?

I can't help but think the worse and I'm just tired of worrying nonstop.

Its good that your MO acted on your concerns and ordered these tests. Hopefully you'll get the results soon and they will show something other than a spread of BC. Normal aging may catch up to your back.

I'd never had back pain other than a muscle pull until after treatment for BC. Sprinting now causes back pain, so I can no longer do interval training. I have an undiagnosed problem in my lower spine that is triggered by very specific positions and activities. I recently had to change a flat and this triggered the pain. It always resolves, so I'm fairly sure this is aging. If I wanted my MO would at least send me for X-rays.

Let's hope this is just normal wear and tear.

Prayers to you Nirrti, hope you get your answers quickly, waiting is the worse part. Hopefully it's something minor that is an easy fix. Fingers crossed for you.

doxie my MO also said it "might be a disc" so you are right it most likely is aging, although I'm "only" 32. But yes I've been hoping it's something minor. Sorry about your lower back issues!

Thank you everyone for the reply, support, thoughts and prayers, it already is making me feel better.

Nirrti - I hope it is a pulled muscle or similar. You are much too young for any of this! Hanging out with you until you get the news. Fingers and toes crossed that it is nothing sinister.

Keep us posted. Sure hoping it is just something that's pulled, pinched, etc.

Great news, I am all clear! It turns out I have bulging disc. I was so worried it could've been mets. Now I feel like I've been given a second chance. I promised myself I'll stop worrying about recurrence if I'm clear. I will do just that.

Thank you all for your kind concern.

    All the best.

so happy for you. I had a bulging disc once - it's really painful. Still I insisted on walking my dogs - sat down at times to cry because it hurt so much. Prednisone is what finally helped me. Glad it's not nasty C

Nancy- as your neurologist about getting epidural injections. they truly help the pain of bulging/herniated discs. they usually use kenelog ( a steroid and lidocaine - a pain reliever. Between the two you can be clear of pain for 4 months. They can generally give up to 3 injections a year.

Yes, steroid injections into the spine took care of my herniated disc back in 2008. What a relief to have that option!
