my Mom is 68 and just had a mastectomy. She has one drain still in at 3 1/2 weeks post op. Her tissue has a little problem with blood supply but they let us come home a week ago (10 hour drive). Can anyone tell me if this looks normal for healing as I have no experience in wound care or should I take her to the dr. I know it could be adipose tissue. Her skin is not hot to the touch or streaky like infection. There is a an odor but it is not really strong. The top pic is from Monday and the bottom pic is from today. Is this normal healing?

    Mamarocks-

It's hard to tell from the photos and without knowing how your mom heals normally, but we would suggest taking her in just to be on the safe side. If it is infected, it's important to start treating it right away. Can you send pictures to her surgeon, just so s/he can take a look and advise you on what to do? Or call the nurse's line for your local hospital and ask what they suggest; she can be seen by any doctor to treat an infection, but again, the sooner the better! We hope it's just normal healing and everything turns out ok, please keep us posted!

I think a doctor should see it. Its hard to tell from the photos but it doesn't look right to me. Good luck and keep us posted....

Should be seen by a Dr! Not at all what is 'usual'.

    Where do you live?
