Follow up after triple positive DCIS

Hi everybody,

I was diagnosed in Florida in 2014 and recently moved to Tennessee. My new primary doctor has to give me a referral to go to an oncologist. However, he thinks 2 visits a year with a MRI is overkill . April of 2016 would have been two years since I was diagnosed. He told me he was going to talk to his oncologist associate & get back to me. I was just wondering if others did not have the 5 year follow up, and I thought these were the "guide lines" that the doctors had to follow. Part of me is happy not to go to an oncologist and part of me is sooo scared. Take care everybody,

The only reason I see an oncologist is because he is the one prescribing the Tamoxifen. I’ll see him every 6 months as long as I am on it. I still see the radiation oncologist every 6 months but he is following me for radiation side effects. My surgical oncologist, who was the head of my team switched me to annual visits and back to annual screening mammograms at the 3 year mark ... prior to that I was having them every 6 months on the affected side, but only yearly on the non-cancer side.

I’m not sure what the protocol would have been had I had a mastectomy without radiation and Tamoxifen. I suspect I would be seeing fewer people less often. For what it’s worth, I’ve never had an MRI.

Thanks Annette for the response. Your right, all I had was the mastectomy, no meds or radiation . He ask me why I was having the MRI of the breast if I don't have any. Lol I was thinking I never did ask my old oncologist that question. My old oncologist also check my tumor markers twice a year.
