Detox between chemo
Hello. I'm nearing the end of my chemo treatments. Its been difficult for me to not combine alternative & chemo. But my drs were clear about what they did & did not want me to do. I find peace with this as the results of the chemo are very positive. My tumor has shrunk drastically. However, as i finish chemo i'm interested in detoxing before surgery. I have folllowed a strict organic no sugar diet throughout treatment. Fresh green juices. Fresh ginger shots. Any ideas? Anyone else do this?

I don't think there is any sort of magic detox to do. Exercise helps, because it gets more oxygen through your system. Fluids help and eating well is obviously a good idea. Because it is also important to get a lot of fiber, I would try to eat the green things rather than drink them. Artichokes and asparagus are particularly high in various beneficial fibers. I also found it helpful to focus on anti-inflammatory foods like ginger, chili, fatty fish, raw onions etc. Protein is very important to build your blood cells back up. You don't have to consume huge amounts, but make sure to get some high-quality protein every day.

Not detox, but for rebuilding your immune function I would consider medicinal mushrooms such as reishi, maitake and turkey tail. Extracts are the most potent and convenient. My wife has had good results using maitake D fraction extract along with whole maitake. She also takes a six mushroom extract and drinks chaga tea that I make. We have seen a very significant increase in her neutrophil counts, like over doubling them. Went from 1.35 to 3.3 in a couple of weeks. And that's seven years out from doing chemo (FEC and taxoterere). Maitake D fraction is clinically proven to boost the immune system in at least 2 North American clinical trials.

azrescue, congrats on finishing up chemo! I'm a big fan of Epsom Salt baths for detoxing from both chemotherapy and radiation. The other thing I would consider is something to cleanse your liver. I use a Detox tea I get at a tea & spice store, and my liver numbers remain excellent in spite of being on 3 pretty powerful meds. I don't recall exactly what it has in it and I've dumped my most recent supply into a canister w/out saving the label, but I think Dandelion Root is the main ingredient, along with a few other things that actually make it taste pretty good -- much better than others I've tried. I can give you or anyone a link if you're interested, although I just checked and their website doesn't list the ingredients, but they could probably tell you everything that's in it if you call them.
Following up on Timothy's suggestion, I've used and very much like Stamets 7 by Host Defense, which is a blend of the mushroom types he mentioned.
