Savi treatment

I had a lumpectomy in February and the 5 day SAVI treatment. Three months later I still have many large lumps in my breast from the SAVI radiation. One doctor said it was fluid retention and another said it was calcium. No body seemed to be too concerned about it, but the breast is still sore. I haven't been able to get back to the cancer center because my husband broke a hip. Can anyone tell me if this is normal?

Hi MaryJ, welcome to the boards but sorry for the reason for being here. I can't tell you if that is normal, but I can relate to your SAVI treatment (I had mine in Jan. 2015). I think the breast being sore is common and even now, over a year later, I still get little stabs of pain and feel water retention very easily in both my breasts. Did you have a nurse navigator at the breast center and could you call her to talk it over? You don't say how far away the breast center is, but perhaps your local gynecologist's office would also be a source of information and may be worth a visit if they think it necessary. Many times I've heard it said that after surgery, it takes much longer to heal totally than we think because overall we're feeling so much better. Maybe ingesting a low carbohydrate diet for a week or so will indicate if it is just fluid retention. Let us know how you are doing and if you have any other questions.

Thanks ceanna. I think I will contact the nurse next week. Just to put my mind to rest. I think my post treatment appointment is next month. Thanks again for your reply.
