Intraductal Papilloma surgery - Confused

I had seen a breast surgeon at one hospital and was diagnosed with an Intraductal Papilloma. I have had bleeding out of one duct on my right side. I had a mammo, US and MRI and then an MRI-guided biopsy. That is when they gave me the Dx.

So this surgeon wanted to do what she called Excisional breast biopsy, nipple duct excisional biopsy/exploration. She was going to cut around my areola and take out all ducts. I decided that since I have to be put under, I wanted to go to a better hospital and doctor.

So I made an appt with one at another hospital. This doctor called the surgery "right breast wire localization lumpectomy and ductoscopy right breast". She is going to cut from edge of areola to nipple at the bottom and only take out a few of the ducts.

I guess my question is are these the same surgery? I thought a lumpectomy was taking out much more tissue.

Lots of times they just excise one duct when they can identify specifically which one has the papilloma. I think the second option where you made the appointment is less invasive and tring more to narrow things down. Sounds like the first place was just going to take them all rather than identifying the specific problem. I think anytime they are taking any size chunk, no matter how small, they sometimes use the term "lumpectomy." It is really an excisional biopsy, but the terms tend to be used interchangeably
