I have been diagnosed with a 2.6cm ilc and my surgeon can schedule a lumpectomy with sentinel node removal on May 6. My 8th grader's school awards ceremony night is May 9th. What are the chances that I could make it to the award ceremony

I'd say chances are good. I went to work the day after my lumpectomy, albeit for half a day. My biggest annoyance is that I had a drain (had 20 lymph nodes removed during surgery), and that had to be hidden in my clothing. Otherwise, it wasn't a big deal.

Barring complications, I don't see why you can't go to the awards ceremony, especially if someone else does the driving.

I agree with Elaine. I wouldn't plan on being able to drive - you may be able to but don't count on it.

I'd also try to keep the evening short and take a nap or rest beforehand. I took time off work after my lumpectomy but was back to walking and lightweight activities the next day. I did not use any opiates, so was fairly clear-headed but still kind of tired and semi-spacey from the long day in surgery, emotional wear and tear, etc.

Good luck with your surgery, pathology and recovery. Enjoy that awards ceremony!

I can only speak for myself. I did not have an LX but a UMX. There is no way that I would have not been able to be at a school presentation for one of my Sons 3 days post UMX. I was driving the day after surgery with no issues.

Yes, do go. It will give you something fun to look forward too. Don't overdo during the day & plan to have someone else drive.
