Problem with my port

I recently had my third of four chemotherapy treatments and half way through my chemotherapy my port was causing me some problems. They switched over to using my hand and they said that I had to have a fluoroscopy.

I was told when I entered the radiation room that I would have to have iodine injected into my port to see if it was working properly.

I have had a reaction from iodine before.

It bloats me like a "blueberry"

I would also be required take prednisone 50 mg 3xs and benedryl prior to the iodine.

My WBC has been very low because I can not take nulesta. Not advised to take any steroids.

I opted not to have the test because I only have one more treatment of chemotherapy and then I am done I'm wondering if I am right at telling the doctor that my choice is to just have it done in my hand for the last treatment and not to put this iodine and extra radiation in my body that I don't need?

That sounds like a good solution to me. (I never got a port, and my veins held up fine for 16 treatments.) Congrats on just one more chemo to go!

wow I'm amazed that your veins held up after that many treatments. Yes I only have one more and then I start radiation. 5 weeks 5 days a week, but I've already had my surgery so that's all done.
