Tamoxifen and hot flashes

I would like to share with you how regular exercise is helping me with side effects of Tamoxifen. I am taking Tam for the past one and half years. Initially when I started taking Tam I was having hot flushes and leg muscle spasm (especially at nights) often but when I started going to gym regularly I noticed my hot flashes got reduced and my leg muscle spasm disappeared. I am doing Yoga or Aqua fit 3-4 times a week for one hour/day. These two exercise are very good in keeping in shape and also for lymphedema. In yoga, deep breathing techniques and stretching are helping with drainage of the lymph nodes and keep your muscles in good shape. In aqua fit, water is doing half the work by helping like a massage all around the body. I would encourage anyone having hot flashes to exercise regularly.

Also, as soon as hot flushes come start, I take two sips of cold water and it goes away. Therefore I carry my cold water bottle everywhere I go :)

I hope this helps. All the best.

That is awesome you have arsenals in your "workbag" to help you.

Not all of us were/are that lucky. I have been off meds for several years now and I still get the occasional hot flash....yoga daily, nordic walking, weight lifting and meditation basically helped me lose weight, but zip on the flashes. Thrilled to be here to complain about it :-)

I still have hot flashes but not on tamoxifen. However, they've been much better since I got off the arimidex and on exemestane (aromasin). I personally think L-theanine and 5-HTP help my hot flashes and mood swings tremendously, though science says they are ineffective. Taken the AI in the middle of the day instead of at night helps my ability to sleep all night too.
