I was dx'd with LCIS in the left breast and was placed on Tamoxifen. I have been taking Tamoxifen for a little over (1) year now. I recently felt a new lump in the opposite breast (the right- outer quadrant) and my oncologist felt it as well. He told me to go see my breast surgeon within the next week. So I made an appt and will see him this Thursday to see what his thoughts are. But my question is...

1) I heard that cancer within a lump generally means it's been growing for quite some time. But for the last yr and a half I've been to numerous mammo's and u/s's as follow up..with nothing found. So why the big concern about this lump? Wouldn't my mammo's and Ultrasounds have picked up something if it were "bad"?

SMV sorry you are going through this. Unfortunately ILC is many times not picked up on mammo or ultrasound. Mine was only found on MRI. That being said it can still be benign! Good luck and keep us posted....

Thank you so much. I haven't had an MRI...maybe I should. Although you would think that being on Tamoxifen for over a year...that would help eliminate this scare as ILS responds well to it...or so I hear.

I was told that LCIS increases your risk of other BC by 2% each year over general population. Tamoxifen reduces that risk in half to just 1%. But it is still an increase of 1% over general population, so clearly tamoxifen doesn't completely do the trick. Many with LCIS get an MRI because anything lobular is difficult to image.

So am I correct to assume this new lump should have nothing to do with being "lobular" related, being that I can feel it?

I'm sorry if I sound uneducated. There's just so much to learn!!

It could very well be a benign fibroadenoma or any number of benign things. I had a cyst the year after they found my LCIS.

Obviously I will go to my breast surgeon and get his take on things and do what he recommends, but Yes MelissaDallas, that's what I'm thinking, because the chance is so much greater for that than it being BC at this point and time. :)
