Cold Caps: Did your hair grow back where you got freezer burnt?

Hello Everyone,

Would appreciate your feedback if you used cold caps and got some freezer burn. My fiance just went through cold cap therapy and experienced freezer burn on the top of her scalp. It sounds like there have been several people that experienced this with cold cap therapy. Did your hair grow back in the area? We are concerned the freezer burn has cause permanent follicle damage and will no longer grow back.

Thank You in advance for reading this and for any input you may have.

I got "frost nip" (the Penguin rep's word for it) on my scalp at least 3 times during chemo. One session left a really sore spot for about a week. The good news is my hair did grow back. It may have been a little slower in growing back at those spots, but it did grow back completely. I think it took about 3 months pfc to notice that the frostbitten areas were filling in with new hair.

If your hair continues to thin during chemo, you may want to protect the thinning areas since it will be easier to get frostbite again. Try covering the frostbitten place with a piece of gauze next time.

It will be worth all the trouble, I promise!

Wildflower: Thank you for your reply. My fiance will be relieved to hear that. I am hoping the freezer burn wasn't too bad and she will have complete regrowth like you experienced.

If anyone else has experienced freezer burnt scalp from cold caps, would still be interested in hearing their experiences.

    Thank You.

    Hi,

Fiancee is doing well. Hair loss was a lot more than we imagined but I understand the result will vary persons to person and due to different chemo drugs.

I did search through the threat you suggested but didn't find anything there related to my question. Wildflower was kind enough to reply so it is some comfort to my fiancee that she should expect her hair to grow back where it was freezer burnt.

    Thanks for following up
