Just got THE CALL

I just got the call from my doctor and unfortunately I've joined the club. All she said is that they found cancer and wants me to meet with her tomorrow. I'm scheduled for a chest X-ray, electrocardiogram, and labs. I'm guessing that's standard procedure? She mentioned surgery, but it was a very brief conversation. I'm guessing/hoping I get more info when I meet with her tomorrow.

I'm 43 years old; my mom had breast cancer at 59. I had a clear mammo in March, but was referred to a breast clinic by my dr as I have extremely dense breast tissue. On April 4 I had a breast MRI just as a precaution because of my dense breasts. I almost cancelled the appt thinking there was no reason to go and spend $4000 on the test. I received a call 2 hours after the MRI to come back for an ultrasound on April 6. That led to a biopsy on April 8. So, here I am.....

Dear HuskerFan, I am sorry that you find yourself joining this club, a club that quite honestly, none of us wants membership in. Your head is probably spinning now, thinking and fearing the worst. Know that there are many wonderful people here who will support you in any way possible. Can you bring someone with you to the doctor's tomorrow? If not, what about taping the conversation - I found that really useful because I could listen to what the oncologist/doctors say after you leave because you can't possible take it all in. Don't forget to breathe, I know that sounds silly, but honestly, many of us forget to take deep breaths in and out. Know that we're here to support you, ok?

All the best tomorrow and if you have any questions, ask them here.

Thank you for the support ladies! My husband will be joining me today. I hope to get a copy of my pathology report to see exactly what it says/what kind of BC I'm dealing with. I just thought it was strange that she wants me to come in right away to do those tests, but I don't have a surgical consult until May 13.

So very sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I am SO GRATEFUL you went through with the breast MRI. SO THANKFUL you did that

and did not cancel. I am always preaching about women and dense breast tissue. I am just so sorry you have to go through it all,

but you will make it and help other women who are uninformed about dense breast tissue.

When I was diagnosed my calendar filled up with doctor appointments and more tests. I didn't know what to do with myself when that ended, it was weird. Good for you that you kept your appointment, it is always better to error on the side of caution. Good luck to you in your journey. It does go by and you come out of the other side.

Husker fan... Sorry you have to be here but welcome. I think you will find this forum very comforting. The tests your doc ordered are the standard pre operative tests. I don't think it means anything. Just curious what kind of doc you are seeing now because really the next step is the breast surgeon. Good luck and keep us posted...
