High Risk Oncotype Dx score

Options

I just found out that my Oncotype Dx score is 58. I feel like I'm waiting for the cancer to come back now, and I just started radiation today! I wanted the test bc I was thinking it would be a low score and it would help to squash the constant thoughts that it will come back and be invasive. Who else is in the high risk group, and do you have any advice?

Mine was a score for invasive cancer 34. So far it hasn't come back for in situ cancer the scores are different.

It has been over 4 years.

life....the OncotypeDX score used for DCIS indicates whether or not radiation and/or endocrine therapy is warranted. A high score means you would benefit from more treatment compared to a patient with a lower score. That said, with aggressive treatment, you are less likely to have DCIS again and hopefully less likely to get an invasive breast cancer. Keep in mind the OncotypeDX scores for DCIS and for invasive breast cancer are very different and also quite similar. Both tests attempt to identify who would most benefit from less or more treatment because a decade ago more patients with dcis and invasive tumors were getting more treatment because physicians couldn't distinguish who could defer aggressive treatment.

Please rest assured that your tumor was caught early AND no one knows with certainty whether or not it would have become invasive in your lifetime. If you continued to feel overwhelmed by your score, talk to your team and/or consider joining a support group.

    I wish you well!

I wasn't given the test for treatment. It was already decided I was having radiation before the test, because of the high grade. They did the test for prognosis. I wish I hadn't done it at all. It just makes me feel like I'm doomed. I already called the counselor:-) Thanks for your kind words.

LifeOfBabbs, I hated my oncodx score of 34 and felt envious of those with scores less than 10. I too felt like the number 34 walking around just waiting for cancer to come back. I wouldn't do the recommended chemo because I was afraid of the chemo more than the cancer. I was in excellent health I wanted to keep it that way.

As time goes by that prognosis gets better and the number 58 will fade away.
