She shoiuld call her Dr and talk to him/her. Pain/burning in side should at least be discussed with Dr. It may or may not be related to starting Fosamax/alendronate, but Dr should at least be apprised of the change 'just in case'. Could be 'something else 'going on' that needs attention sooner rather than later. (If she hasn't had an appendectomy - then perhaps appendicitis?)

It is very important to be sure to remain verticle for at least 30 mins after taking it on an empty stomach. Pain can/will be caused if not remaining totally upright. As my Dr told me even leaning/bending over to tie shoes can cause pain. Is the pain/burning only shortly after taking it weekly or continues throughout the week? Just 'stuff' to be sure to tell the Dr about

I been on alendronate/Fosamax for several years with no problems from it. It has kept my osteoporosis from progressing - last DEXA test (bone density) was about 2 months ago. There are other alternatives/options that can be used with/for osteoporosis.
