edited April 2016 in Waiting for Test Results

I had a mammogram last week. I'd already been told of a couple of "nodules" that had appeared in my first mammogram 2 years ago so I've been having mammograms every 6 months, until last year I didn't have a mammogram. So now, with last week's mammogram the nodules have grown. Today I had additional mammogram followed by an ultrasound. I am TERRIFIED! My mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer in 1994 so my family history is not in my favor. I'm trying to patiently wait on the results but I can't help but to Google and read and try and educate myself... Any advice or help you can offer on what the next steps may be is greatly appreciated.

    Hi CBarksdale-

We know it's scary, but you've come to the right place for support! Did you get any results back from your ultrasound? Or did the tech say when you should expect them? Try to stay busy and keep your mind occupied while you wait. And please, keep us posted!

It's the waiting that's the worst, huh? I'm doing the waiting thing too, slightly different situation though. I think Googling can be both good and bad. Some solid background knowledge and finding a forum like this is good, but the temptation to read page after page and just get more terrified from it all can be counter productive. I hope you get your results super soon and I hope they are definitive one way or another so that the wait is over, or will be in the very near future. Take care of yourself.

so my doctor called this morning. They have referred me to a breast surgeon for further testing and a possible biopsy. I go next Friday. I'm just so afraid and my brain is going crazy with all the what ifs.. thanks to all for your support

Another thing, if they have been watching them apparently they have looked low risk. Benign things like fibroadenomas grow too, and the fact that there are multiples makes it more likely that they are something benign.

remember that most biopsies come back benign. It seems the other way around on the forum but that has more to do with who would come on the site to post. It's good that your dr is being cautious and doing a biopsy to make sure everything is okay. Try not to worry too much. I know it's easier said than done.
