Ovarian surgery after completion of chemo / radiation

Good afternoon: interested in thoughts from women with similar dx / issues. Thank you!

I was dx 10/21/15 with lobular breast cancer (left breast), ER+ and PR+, HER-, 45 yrs old (and not planning on having more kids), had a lumpectomy 11/8/15 followed by 4 rounds A/C; just had my 10th taxol with two more to go. After I complete chemo, I will begin 6 weeks of radiation. Upon completion of rads, Doc has mentioned discussing having ovaries removed vs. monthly shots to suppress ovaries. Would it be wise to see a GYN oncologist to discuss these options or is my regular OB/GYN the appropriate person to see? Any thoughts / information is appreciated! Thank you!

I recommend you see a GYN oncologist. I had my ovaries, and uterus, removed 6 months after I finished chemo and radiation. It brought me peace of mind. It was one less thing I had to worry about. I was able to have it done laproscopic (?), and it was a fairly easy surgery.

I too am considering having my ovaries out and thinking of getting second opinion with gyn oncologist. Have seen regular gyn who is willing to take ovaries but not uterus (I want it all gone) but I'm ok with just ovaries. Good luck on your decision. So no regrets ladyboss1997
