So, you're on chemo - what are you eating?

I'm asking for some ideas on foods I can add, as I'm craving broccoli cheese soup and that's about it. :)

I start my day with a smoothie (organic hemp seeds, fruits, chia seeds, Stoney Farm organic yogurt, spinach, and a drop of honey).

Then lunch has been broccoli cheddar soup except yesterday when I finished the left over red beans and rice but I added some hot sauce - oh yeah, that was a mistake! Holy indigestion! But I had broccoli cheddar soup (home made in the crock pot) for dinner.

What's working, what's not? I'm always happy to talk food. Even when I'm not hungry (that's what I'm finding here - I'm just not hungry which is truly a new experience as I'm ALWAYS hungry!)

hi CJSharma, that first 7 days I try to stick to bland foods if/when I can eat . We have been very lucky that my mom has come for my first 2 infusions and she makes whatever we need. I don't eat a lot for the first couple days other than crackers and water and fruit. But day 6 I requested beef stroganoff (without the garlic) and it hit the spot for me! We had lasagna on day 4. It tasted great and I cursed myself for eating it for the next 2 days. Worst heartburn I've ever had. I think next time I'll stick to chicken and rice, etc. And the fresh fruit/veg. I'm with you on smoothies too! Also eggs, that protein is important! I made a big batch of raspberry bran muffins before this infusion too that tasted good and worked against the big C for me. I like simple things I can snack on

Hi CJ, when I was on weekly taxol, I wanted bland food for the first few days of the infusion; then I could go back to normal seasoning. My taste buds came and went, so sometimes I couldn't really taste much of anything, except that regular water tasted like soap. When that happened, I'd add lemon juice, and for some reason seltzer was okay when water didn't taste great (We have a soda stream, which got a lot of use in those months.). I burned through an awful lot of watermelon cubes, as well as rice cakes.

I was on taxol (with Herceptin/Perjeta every three weeks) for about 4 months. I craved protein much of the time: cottage cheese on the days when I was eating bland food, and pretty much any protein the rest of the time.

It's a lovely thing when you're done with treatment and your taste buds come roaring back!
