Scared and tired of the unknown

this is my first post to these boards, I have been reading through them for a while now. I'm glad I've found them. My journey started the beginning of January when I started noticing bloody discharge from my right breast. My PCP referred me to mammo and ultrasound where really nothing was found and a few weeks later, I had a ductogram where two filling defect were found. The doctors kept telling me it was an intraductal pappiloma and not to be concerned. I was sent to a surgeon who did a duct excision on March 11. On March 17 I got the news that it was DCIS, intermediate to high grade with necrosis. My margins were clear but were within 1 mm. I'm going back in this Friday for a re excision. I am so scared that when they go back in they are going to find more and even worse cancer. I'm 38 years old and have 10 and 13 year old girls. Im trying to put on a brave face for them and my husband, but inside I am so fearful of what's to come.

I was diagnosed in January with DCIS high grade with necrosis. It is frightening and I was sooooo scared. Had a lumpectomy in February and am currentlyhalf way through radiation. Everyone here said that you feel better about things once you have a treatment plan. I have found that to be true. Still scary but no where near as much as before! My surgeon said to me that even my aggressive DCIS was still DCIS and can't be invasive. I am hoping that the fear lessens even more as time goes by!

    hi Loveotters and Kkubsky!

Sorry you have had to join this club, but so glad for you that you have found BCO and the boards.

K, you are absolutely right and hope Loveotters will soon agree that for the vast majority of us it is the waiting and the unknown before you know your plan and start to action it and tackle the cancer that is the most scary and stressful. Once you start your plan and give it all you got with your team, you will start to breathe a bit more, knowing you are doung what you need to do ' get that cancer good'.

Look at my signature. I had Invasive, with lymph node, blood involvement, with two very young kiddos, one with special needs and here I am, 8 years on, with two beautiful happy kids still and 2 still very good recontructions and some lovely friends made on the board all those years ago!

Just wanted to pop in and give you a hug and hope. Deep breaths and well, ice cream and movies when you cant sleep if needed and good luck with your treatments. You are not alone, you will find lots of ladies who had similar dx and you can find solace and support and laughts when needed from each other.

    Hang in there!

    Hug.

Thank you ladies for your encouraging words. I had my margin re excision today and it looks like we have clean margins. Still hoping nothing else is found in pathology, but I do feel better about things today. Ready for the next step!

    great to hear that Loveotters!

one step at a time. Keep coming over to BCO boards and we will be here when you need it.

You will get through this, and find new strenghts and abilities you didnt even know you had along the way.

Glad you got your clear margins, still, the waiting on results sucks, but you will find someone, in some time zone is usually up, if you need the boards

    Be good to yourself !
